Small Businesses and the 2010 World Cup

I have written a lot about this subject over the past few months and still I am bombarded with business owners who have not yet understood what impact a sporting even such as a soccer world cup could have on their organisation. So in response we are hosting a series of free webinars to inform, educate and enthuse all business owners in South Africa to get the facts, be prepared and take action. We are not just looking at hospitality and selling souvenirs but across all industries and sectors. Jo… Continue

10 business Opportunities for the Future

Here are ten different categories of business ideas that you can safely bet on for the future. 1. Environmental. Any business with a positive affect on the Environment. Solar energy, recycle, alternate power etc. 2. Debt Advice. With the ever growing awareness of people in debt, any sort of financial counselling, education or debt regulation will do very well over the next 5 years. Just make sure you can still get paid for this, as most of your clients will be broke. 3. Convenience. Any produ… Continue

Getting your Brain Fit

One of the aspects of life we tend to ignore together with good nutrition and exercise is the fitness of our brains. Brain Fitness you say! Can we get our brains fit? Well just like a muscle in your body the more you exercise it the fitter it becomes. Putting your brain on a programme of regular exercise will help develop better retention, recall and concentration. This will improve your performance at work, school and socially. Your brain is capable of huge amounts of processing and unless you… Continue

Keeping an eye on your business

To help survive in these tough times as business owners need to keep our eyes fixed on the prize: The prize being staying in business. I see so many people wavering from the basics and loosing the plot to just wake up too late and find that they have run out of cash flow and energy before the end of the month. To keep your eye on the business requires a daily checklist of simple yet critical activities: 1. Am I still doing what I need to do to fulfill my life purpose? 2. Is my business still doi… Continue

Cubicle Nation

Pamela Slim wrote a book titled Escape from cubicle Nation that records the dreams and wishes of many Americans trapped in the corporate word living each day with a hope to one day escape from their cubicle and into the world of self employment. Many South Africans find themselves in the same situation, going each day to a job they dislike, doing tasks that bring little or no joy and waiting for Friday and Payday just to get by. How sad is this, how depressing it must be to live your life for ti… Continue

New Emerging Markets

Today I get to meet five new potential business owners. After my recent monthly chat on the radio last week, my phone range consistently for about two hours. I have made eight appointments with people who have business ideas and need to take them to the next level. On Saturday I met the first two, today I get to meet with five. Imagine what they are feeling like today? To wake up on a Monday and take the first big step in changing your future and risking your comfort to talk to a Entrepreneur Co… Continue

Springboks win the Series

Watching the Springboks play against the Lions this weekend not only had me on the edge of my seat but also reminded me of how exciting and entertaining sport can be. Very similar to running a small business; team work, game plan, great backup system and focus, focus focus. The never-die attitude that our boys had on the field gave them the edge and perseverance brought them home. Running my own business and helping many others to run theirs requires the same never give up attitude. Each day we… Continue

Monday

Just beyond the ring of the alarm and the sunrise and my first cup of coffee lies Monday. Another day filled with challenges, obstacles and endless possibilities. Today I will do what I can to go the extra mile, to strive to be better than I was yesterday to learn more, teach more, love more and make the world a better place for having me in it. Today I will risk myself a whole lot and reach out to those in need. I will take on the good fight with all my enthusiasm, education and resources. I… Continue

Survive or Thrive?

The press is all over the death of small businesses and unemployment and it makes me sick. Yes, small businesses are facing some troubled times but if we continue to be bombarded with negative articles we will never get out of this situation. Each day I am confronted with people who are in financial trouble and asking us at the Entrepreneur Incubator for help. My attitude is one of Thrive not Survive. If you set your mind to the survival mode then that is what you will do, just survive. If you o… Continue

Entrepreneur Incubator opens more doors

The Entrepreneur Incubator has extended their offering to small businesses who are finding it more difficult to make it in these tough economic times. Even with an interest cut on the near horizon many small businesses are beginning to feel the real pinch of the slowing economy, this is a time when businesses need to buckle down and think more strategically about what and how we do business. Business owners are often too close to their own business and market to analysis it unemotionally. The… Continue

Pick N Pay Argus Cycle Tour

Yesterday 35 000 people woke up with excited ambition but this soon turned into fear as they heard the wind howling at gale force strength around the Cape Peninsula. Fear set in for most, but they continued to the start because they had done the training and traveled all the way to the Mother City and that is what they had planned to do. Funny thing is that the wind seemed to die down a lot on the course and along the Blue Route there was but just a little breeze. Once the riders got into the s… Continue
